Why Palomar Joined the UN Global Compact

by | Aug 4, 2021 | Announcement

At Palomar, we believe that businesses should be doing all we can to strengthen communities and create a better world. As we outlined in our inaugural Sustainability & Citizenship Report last year, Palomar is a values-driven workplace built on ethical behavior, compassion, inclusion and productivity, and is committed to environmental stewardship and cultivating racial and economic justice. However, we needed a way to voice this commitment on a global scale, and hold ourselves accountable for reaching the goals we have set for ourselves in these areas.

That’s why I am pleased to announce that Palomar has joined the United Nations Global Compact initiative—a voluntary leadership platform for the development, implementation and disclosure of responsible business practices.

The UN Global Compact is a call to companies everywhere to align their operations and strategies with ten universally accepted principles in the areas of human rights, labor, environmental stewardship and anti-corruption efforts, and to take action in support of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Launched in 2000, the UN Global Compact is the largest corporate sustainability initiative in the world, with more than 9,500 participating companies and 3,000 non-business signatories based in over 160 countries. Palomar is one of just three U.S. non-life insurance companies to join the UN Global Compact.

We are proud to be part of a global business community taking action to build the world we all want. In addition to our annual, publicly available Sustainability & Citizenship Report, we will be submitting a yearly Communication on Progress to the UN, which will be viewable on our UN Global Compact Participant Profile.

By integrating a principles-based approach into our business strategies, we are acknowledging our shared responsibility for the rights, safety, health and wellbeing of our fellow global citizens. I hope that many more companies will join us as participants in this initiative.
