The Details: 

  

The Vice President of Livestock will report to the Senior Vice President of Livestock and play a key leadership role in building and scaling Palomar’s Livestock division. This position offers a unique opportunity to shape the strategic direction, operational structure, and culture of a growing department within a dynamic organization.

What will you do:

  • Lead the development and growth of the Livestock department, including strategic planning, operational design, and team development.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership on budgeting, staffing models, and long-term business planning.
  • Oversee livestock underwriting operations, ensuring alignment with company goals and regulatory standards.
  • Partner closely with Livestock production team members to support business development and client engagement.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with the Risk Management Agency (RMA) and other key stakeholders.
  • Represent Palomar in industry organizations and serve on relevant committees as assigned.
  • Work cross-functionally with Crop leadership to identify and execute strategies for profitable growth in the Livestock sector.
  • Collaborate with the Hedging department to assess how policy options and regulatory changes impact hedging strategies.
  • Design and deliver training programs for agents, agencies, and internal staff to build expertise in Livestock insurance products and practices.

  

What we are looking for: 

  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Business, or a related field — or equivalent professional experience.
  • Typically 10+ years of experience in the livestock or crop insurance industry, including operational or underwriting leadership.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, Outlook, and Teams; experience with Access and SQL is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly convey strategy, philosophy, and technical information to diverse audiences.
  • A collaborative leadership style that fosters a team-first culture where success is shared.
  • Adaptability and resilience in navigating changes within the crop and livestock insurance landscape.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability and strategic thinking.
  • Deep understanding of the cattle industry, including production, risk management, and market dynamics.
  • Ability to travel 40-50% of the time

Pay Range: $165,000-210,000

The above pay range is for all US-based roles based on function and level, benchmarked against companies of similar size and scope. To be compliant with local legislation as well as provide greater transparency to candidates, we disclose salary ranges on all job postings regardless of the desired job location. We also offer a competitive annual discretionary bonus program and the opportunity for annual long-term incentive stock
